Analysis: Limited to four starts over the prior two seasons because of elbow surgery and a shoulder injury, Carpenter was 17-4 with a league-leading 2.24 ERA for the St. Louis Cardinals. The 2005 NL Cy Young Award winner, Carpenter won 11 consecutive decisions from early July to early September. The awards were voted on by the 30 beat writers of MLB.com. |

| Oct. 2 7:55 AM PT8:55 AM MT9:55 AM CT10:55 AM ET3:55 PM GMT11:55 PM 北京时间-Carpenter hit a grand slam and set a team record for pitchers by driving in six runs as the Cardinals rolled to a 13-0 rout of the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday. Analysis: The right-hander also threw five innings of three-hit ball for his 17th win and first in four starts since a 3-0, complete-game victory at Milwaukee on Sept. 7. Carpenter’s grand slam was the 10th by a Cardinals pitcher and first since Kent Mercker(notes) connected at Florida on Sept. 2, 1998. |
| Sep. 26 2:47 PM PT3:47 PM MT4:47 PM CT5:47 PM ET10:47 PM GMT6:47 AM 北京时间-Carpenter gave up one run and five hits in seven innings of Friday's 2-1 loss to Colorado. Analysis: Carpenter, a leading candidate for the NL Cy Young award with a 16-4 record, complained that the mound was steeper than the one in the bullpen. |
| Sep. 3 5:14 PM PT6:14 PM MT7:14 PM CT8:14 PM ET1:14 AM GMT9:14 AM 北京时间-Carpenter gave up three runs and eight hits in six innings, still good enough to improve his record to 15-3 as the Cardinals beat the Brewers 10-3 on Wednesday. Analysis: Although shy of his best stuff for the second straight start despite an extra day of rest, Carpenter is 10-0 with a 2.17 ERA in his last 12 outings and leads the majors with a 2.28 ERA. Carpenter is 9-0 with a 1.99 ERA against the Central this season and 35-12 for his career. |
| Aug. 28 12:17 PM PT1:17 PM MT2:17 PM CT3:17 PM ET8:17 PM GMT4:17 AM 北京时间-Carpenter failed to earn a win for the first time in seven starts as he did not get a decision in Thursday's 4-3 loss to visiting Houston. The Cardinals right-hander allowed two runs and five hits over six innings. Analysis: Carpenter (14-3, 2.20 ERA) will likely have his chance to earn his league-best 10th straight win on Wednesday night at home against Milwaukee. He did not get a decision at Miller Park on May 25 despite throwing eight scoreless innings. Carpenter has not beaten the Brewers since April 27, 2005. |
| Aug. 23 11:36 AM PT12:36 PM MT1:36 PM CT2:36 PM ET7:36 PM GMT3:36 AM 北京时间-Carpenter tied for the NL lead in victories and earned his major league-best ninth straight win Saturday night in San Diego, throwing seven innings in a 7-0 victory. Analysis: Carpenter (14-3) also took over the major league's ERA leader at 2.16 and perhaps took over as the frontrunner for the NL Cy Young Award. He's scheduled to start Thursday against Houston and is 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in two starts versus the Astros this season. |
| Aug. 18 9:10 AM PT10:10 AM MT11:10 AM CT12:10 PM ET5:10 PM GMT1:10 AM 北京时间-Carpenter earned a major league-leading eighth straight victory by pitching eight innings of five-hit ball in Monday night's 3-2 win in Los Angeles - the Cardinals' ninth victory in 10 games. Analysis: Carpenter (13-3, 2.27 ERA), the 2005 NL Cy Young Award winner, has pushed himself into contention for another award. With Monday's victory, he moved within one of teammate Adam Wainwright for the NL wins lead, and he is second in ERA behind reigning Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum of San Francisco (2.19). Carpenter is scheduled to start Saturday night in San Diego. He hasn't faced the Padres since Sept. 26, 2006, but is 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA in five starts versus them. |

To earn a victory in his fourth straight start, He allowed two runs over seven innings. Analysis: Carpenter (12-3, 2.27 ERA) will try to establish the majors' longest winning streak on Tuesday night against the host Los Angeles Dodgers. He is 4-0 with a 2.18 ERA in five career starts against Los Angeles, including a win on July 27. |
| Aug. 8 12:55 PM PT1:55 PM MT2:55 PM CT3:55 PM ET8:55 PM GMT4:55 AM 北京时间-Carpenter improved to 11-1 in 13 career starts against Pittsburgh in a 6-4 win on Friday. He gave up four runs and nine hits over eight innings. Analysis: Carpenter is 7-0 with a 1.61 ERA in nine starts against the NL Central this year. "He gave them something to hit and they didn't miss them," manager Tony La Russa said of Carpenter. "But as he went into it, he made better and better pitches and I don't care how good you're hitting, it's tough to center them." |
| Aug. 2 11:49 AM PT12:49 PM MT1:49 PM CT2:49 PM ET7:49 PM GMT3:49 AM 北京时间-Carpenter tossed an eight-hitter for his second complete game of the season and 27th of his career in Saturday night's 3-1 win over visiting Houston. Analysis: Despite missing more than a month with a strained ribcage muscle, Carpenter (10-3, 2.10 ERA) has quietly crept in the NL Cy Young Award race. He's 5-0 with a 1.60 ERA since the beginning of July and has assumed the ERA lead in the NL from Arizona's Dan Haren. Carpenter's next start could come Friday night at Pittsburgh. In his last 10 starts against the Pirates, he's 9-0 with a 1.70 ERA. |

Analysis: In his five starts in July, Carpenter (9-3, 2.19 ERA) is 4-0 with a 1.75 ERA and will likely next pitch Saturday night at home against Houston. The right-hander allowed two runs over eight innings July 22 at Minute Maid Park but did not factor in the decision. He is 5-3 with a 2.87 ERA in 12 career starts versus the Astros. |
| Jul. 11 12:50 PM PT1:50 PM MT2:50 PM CT3:50 PM ET8:50 PM GMT4:50 AM 北京时间-Carpenter gave up three runs while striking out six in six innings of an 8-3 win over the Cubs on Friday. Analysis: It was the ninth quality start in 11 outings for Carpenter since he returned from a stint on the disabled list due to a strained left ribcage muscle. The right-hander is 6-3 with a 2.81 ERA in those 11 outings. |
| Jul. 6 3:54 PM PT4:54 PM MT5:54 PM CT6:54 PM ET11:54 PM GMT7:54 AM 北京时间-Carpenter allowed one run and five hits in seven innings of a win over the Reds on Sunday. Analysis: Carpenter is 6-3 this season. He allowed five hits while striking out five in the victory, which snapped a two-game losing streak. |
| Jun. 15 3:56 PM PT4:56 PM MT5:56 PM CT6:56 PM ET11:56 PM GMT7:56 AM 北京时间-Carpenter allowed three runs and five hits in seven innings of Sunday's 3-0 loss to the Indians. Analysis: The loss was Carpenter's first since Aug. 10. He missed a month earlier this year after straining a left rib cage muscle while batting. The 2005 NL Cy Young Award winner was 4-0 with a 1.23 ERA in his first seven starts of the season. |
| Jun. 10 10:42 AM PT11:42 AM MT12:42 PM CT1:42 PM ET6:42 PM GMT2:42 AM 北京时间-After giving up a combined three runs in his first six starts this season, Carpenter allowed three runs in six innings Tuesday night in Florida but did not factor in the decision in a 4-3 loss. Analysis: Carpenter (4-0, 1.23 ERA) is 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA since returning from a strained ribcage muscle. He is scheduled to pitch Sunday night in Cleveland, and Carpenter has not faced the Indians since June 28, 2006. He is 2-0 with a 3.47 ERA in his last four starts versus Cleveland. |
| Jun. 5 1:39 PM PT2:39 PM MT3:39 PM CT4:39 PM ET9:39 PM GMT5:39 AM 北京时间-Carpenter pitched a three-hitter for his first complete game in more than two years, as the Cardinals defeated Cincinnati 3-1 on Thursday. Analysis: Carpenter (4-0) needed just 95 pitches for his 26th complete game and first since September 11, 2006, at Houston. With the help of two double plays, he faced the minimum through 7 2-3 innings. Carpenter's ERA rose to 0.71 ERA. |
| May 31 12:56 PM PT1:56 PM MT2:56 PM CT3:56 PM ET8:56 PM GMT4:56 AM 北京时间-Carpenter allowed six hits and two runs with five strikeouts over six innings Saturday and improved to 3-0 in the Cardinals' 6-2 victory in San Francisco. Analysis: Carpenter, who pitched 23 innings in his first four starts without giving up an earned run, yielded Juan Uribe's RBI triple in the second inning and Bengie Molina doubled in a run an inning later. Opponents are hitting .157 off of Carpenter. |
| May 26 2:18 PM PT3:18 PM MT4:18 PM CT5:18 PM ET10:18 PM GMT6:18 AM 北京时间-Carpenter took a perfect game into the seventh inning Monday, finishing by allowing just two hits over eight innings. But he did not earn a victory as the Cardinals lost 1-0 in 10 innings to Milwaukee. Analysis: Carpenter doesn't look like a pitcher who has struggled with injuries of late. He extended his scoreless streak to 23 innings, retired the first 18 batters and finished with 10 strikeouts and no walks. He said he didn't care about the perfect game. "I'm past personal stuff," Carpenter said. "... I gave up two grounder hits, and I'll take that all year long." So will Carpenter owners. |
| May 21 10:05 AM PT11:05 AM MT12:05 PM CT1:05 PM ET6:05 PM GMT2:05 AM 北京时间-Carpenter allowed three hits in five scoreless innings to beat the Cubs 2-1 on Wednesday. Analysis: It was a successful 67-pitch outing for Carpenter in his first start sinxe being activated off the 15-day disabled list. The Cardinals want to keep their often-injured ace healthy, so manager Tony La Russa did his best to ignore Carpenter's steely-eyed stare when the manager replaced the starter. |
| May 20 2:17 PM PT3:17 PM MT4:17 PM CT5:17 PM ET10:17 PM GMT6:17 AM 北京时间-Carpenter passed a final test with a short bullpen session Sunday and the Cardinals' ace is due to come off the 15-day disabled list Wednesday against the Cubs. Analysis: Carpenter strained a muscle in his left rib cage April 14. Mitchell Boggs, who had been filling in for Carpenter in the rotation, was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Friday. |
| Apr. 10 2:39 PM PT3:39 PM MT4:39 PM CT5:39 PM ET10:39 PM GMT6:39 AM 北京时间-Following a pair of injury decimated seasons, Carpenter took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning in his first start this year and combined with two relievers on a one-hitter to lead the St. Louis Cardinals over the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1 Thursday. Analysis: Carpenter was 51-18 from 2004-06 but then was 0-2 in 21 1-3 innings during the past two seasons. He had not won since Game 3 of the 2006 World Series. "When he's healthy, like he is right now, he's as good as anybody," manager Tony La Russa said. "He didn't give them anything to hit." |
| Mar. 18 2:49 PM PT3:49 PM MT4:49 PM CT5:49 PM ET10:49 PM GMT6:49 AM 北京时间-Carpenter pitched six scoreless innings in the St. Louis Cardinals' 3-2 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday and has not allowed a run in 14 innings this spring. Analysis: Carpenter missed most of the last two seasons with arm and shoulder trouble. But in his fourth start of the spring, he turned in the Cardinals' longest outing so far. Seventeen of the 18 outs Carpenter recorded came via groundball or strikeout. |
